3 day cleanse
I decided that the new year was the perfect time for me to try my first cleanse! I ate much more sugar than I usually do over the holidays and that means I am craving it even more. I’ve done a lot of reading on cleanses and one of the benefits is supposed to be it resets your taste buds so you lessen or eliminate cravings. I need that! Also, I just want to clean my body out. All the sugar and refined flour I took in while eating sweets is not great for my system. I’m feeling low on energy and just generally sluggish.
Here is a link to the cleanse I am using. I like this cleanse because it is real food, and I believe I can stick with it. Basically I will be eating LOTS of vegetables! Lunch each day is a salad and dinner is soup. I particularly love soup so I feel like dinner will be great. I believe breakfast will be the hardest for me because it is a green smoothie. Unfortunately I do not have a juicer so I will have to mix everything in my blender with some water. This means my breakfast drink will be quite thick and will include the solids from all the veggies. I know I will be able to do it, but I sure will be missing my usual breakfast of scrambled eggs and spinach:)
Cleanse Benefits
So what are the other benefits of doing a cleanse? According to Livestrong, you can expect the following (here is a link to the complete article):
- improved mood because you are doing something good for yourself
- a cleaner diet, especially high in green vegetables, can stabilize blood sugar and help control appetite
- because you are eating mostly low calorie foods, people often lose weight on a cleanse
- improve overall health and help with fatigue, allergies, mental sharpness, and even dark circles under your eyes
Cleanse Risks
Are their risks? I’m sure there are. As with anything, everybody is different and will be affected differently. I chose this particular cleanse because I still get to eat. I would not do a cleanse that just allowed me to drink for several days. I would be miserable and I know that it would not be good for me. I also like that dinner on this cleanse is cooked. I am not a fan of only eating raw food and this still allows me to have my warm comforting soup in the evening.
Ready, set, go!
I did all of my prep work for the cleanse yesterday and today is Day 1 of the cleanse! I am going to journal how it goes and then post it for you to see tomorrow. I figured there are lots of people like me who have never done a cleanse before, and it would be helpful to hear about my experience. I will try to be brutally honest, even about the not so pleasant stuff, so it should at least be interesting!
Have a great day and I can’t wait to give you the update tomorrow!

I’m a big fan of the green smoothie. Instead of just veggies, mine usually are something like this:
- any non-dairy milk (almond, coconut, soy, etc)
- greens
- fruit
- ‘superfood’ like chia seeds or flax seed
- protein powder
The combinations are endless. You can also add things like fresh ginger or spices for some flavor. Fruit can be fresh or frozen. Good stuff!
Thanks Steve! I should have qualified that statement. A green smoothie like yours sounds yummy and I do in fact often have a mainly fruit smoothie with some kale or spinach in it. This smoothie is full of celery, cucumbers, kale, and lemon. Because I don’t have a juicer, maybe smoothie is the wrong name for it since it actually kind of lumpy:) Oh well, it’s only 3 mornings and 1 is done!
